PORCH Needs Your Help
Posted on September 1, 2026 6:55 AM by Eden Glenn

You have no doubt seen the green and white PORCH Food Drive signs that appear throughout New Town around the second Saturday of the month. These signs advertise our community effort to collect food and personal hygiene products to benefit those in need.

How does PORCH work?

We would like to invite any interested neighbors to join our team of volunteers as either a regular monthly volunteer or a back-up when a regular volunteer is not available. The time commitment is roughly 45 minutes the second Saturday morning of each month. While this is a volunteer position, volunteers are richly rewarded knowing that they are part of the team that helps make it all happen. If you are interested in volunteering or would like to learn more about PORCH, please contact Gale Hyatt (757-576-3376) or Eden Glenn (804-651-0178).

As a reminder, our upcoming collection on September 12 is New Town’s last chance to help Williamsburg collect 250,000 pounds of food by September 19th. This #250FoodDrive goal is in its home stretch – about 70,000 pounds are still needed (as of last week). So remember to put your donations out for collection on September 12th, and perhaps volunteer to join our collection team as well!
